I don't get it
Maybe this was to keep the questioners anonymous. Interesting idea using technology.
It was done primarily to help people gain an better understanding of prayer by allowing them to ask questions about it.
It was done by texting rather than allowing people to raise their hands and ask questions for two reasons. First because we thought some people would be more likely to text than to stand up in front of the entire congregation, especially spiritual seekers who might think their question is simple or dumb. Second, we did it so that the questions could be screened. There's only a limited amount of time in the service and we wanted to be sure the questions addressed were ones that would have broad interest.
And we thought it would be a different and fun way to help get people more engaged in he service.
Outstanding idea. [And if people need some innovative training, perhaps the church will work together to upgrade everyone's skills here in the 21st Century. And in the meantime, they might even engage a young person in their pew. Work together to text the pastor.]
Alternatively, our church is moving toward interacting like that AFTER Sunday's sermon... ie, on Monday-Saturday... using our church's MyChurch.org collaborative site.
I guess so that they can listen too?
